A positive and constructive meeting between Burren Junction residents, Walgett Shire Councillors and senior Council staff on Wednesday, 14 October has provided renewed encouragement for the community as it works towards improving local infrastructure, facilities and services.

The meeting, organised by Burren Progress Inc., brought together community representatives, Mayor Jason Ramien, Councillors and senior Council staff, including Acting General Manager Donna Ausling.

Before the meeting, Council representatives were taken on a bus tour of Burren Junction to see firsthand some of the infrastructure challenges facing the town, including the Sports Precinct, Bore Baths, airstrip and other community facilities.

Burren Progress Inc. welcomed the opportunity for Council representatives to see the issues for themselves and discuss practical solutions with residents.

Numerous Australian bus and coach operators have announced the start of new services as part of a revamped New South Wales TrainLink network.

CDC secured four new seven-year contracts covering nine routes across Victoria, regional NSW and Canberra.

These contracts form part of an uplift to NSW TrainLink coach services announced by the NSW government in May. Commencing on July 1, CDC, alongside other operators, has started running services across the NSW TrainLink coach network.

CDC’s Victorian business CDC Victoria will operate one of the new contracts, covering one route with four services, strengthening connections between Broken Hill, Mildura and surrounding regional communities. Operating between Broken Hill and Mildura, these services will run twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays from commencement, as part of the new seven-year contract.

CDC’s regional NSW operations, through CDC NSW and CDC Canberra, will operate the other three contracts covering eight routes in regional NSW across the Far North Coast, North West Slopes and Southern NSW, including key corridors such as Tweed Heads to Casino, Ballina and Moree to Grafton, Queanbeyan and Young to Yass, Goulburn and Jindabyne to Canberra as well as Narrabri, Burren Junction and Wee Waa.

The Burren Junction community gathered in strong numbers on April 25 to commemorate ANZAC Day, honouring the courage, sacrifice and legacy of Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women.

The morning began outside Burren Junction Public School, where students, staff and community members assembled before marching together to the town’s war memorial. Led by senior students carrying the Australian flag and school banner, the procession reflected both pride and respect, with young and old walking side by side through the streets.

At the memorial, the service was led by the Burren Junction Public School Year 6 Parliament, who played a central role throughout the ceremony. School leaders welcomed attendees, including returned service personnel and community members, and highlighted the importance of remembering not only those who served in past conflicts but also those who continue to serve today.
